ASTM A179 ASME SA179 Seamless Pipe

ASTM A179/ASME SA179 Standard covers minimum-wall thickness, seamless cold-drawn low-carbon steel tubes for tubular heat exchangers, condensers, and similar heat transfer apparatus.

ASTM A179/ASME SA179 Tubes shall be made by the seamless process and shall be cold drawn. ASTM A179/ASME SA179 Tubes shall be heat treated after the final cold drawn pass at a temperature of 1200°F [650°C] or higher.

ASTM A179/ASME SA179 Tubes should do Product Analysis test, Hardness test, Mechanical Test, Flattening Test, Flaring Test, Hydrostatic Test or NDT Test if agreed by Client.

ASTM A179/ASME SA179 Tubes Shall conform to the applicable requirements of the current edition of Specification A 450/A 450M, unless otherwise provided herein.

For Tubular heat exchangers, condensers, and similar heat transfer apparatuses.

These permissible variations in length apply to tubes before bending. They apply to cut lengths up to and including 24 ft [7.3 m]. For lengths greater than 24 ft [7.3 m], the above over-tolerances shall be increased by 1⁄8 in. [3 mm] for each 10 ft [3 m] or fraction thereof over 24 ft or 1⁄2 in. [13 mm], whichever is the lesser.

Scope

  1. ASTM A179 /ASME SA179 covers minimum-wall-thickness, seamless cold-drawn low-carbon steel tubes for tubular heat exchangers, condensers, and similar heat transfer apparatus.
  2. ASTM A179 /ASME SA179 covers tubes 1/8 to 3 in. [3.2 to 76.2 mm], inclusive, in outside diameter. Note 1Tubing smaller in outside diameter and having a thinner wall than indicated in this specification is available. Mechanical property requirements do not apply to tubing smaller than 1/8 in. [3.2 mm] in outside diameter or with a wall thickness under 0.015 in. [0.4 mm].
  3. The values stated in either inch-pound units or SI units are to be regarded separately as standard. Within the text, the SI units are shown in brackets. The values stated in each system are not exact equivalents; therefore, each system must be used independently of the other. Combining values from the two systems may result in nonconformance with the specification. The inch-pound units shall apply unless the “M” designation of this specification is specified in the order.

Note:

  • Mill test certificates will be issued according to EN10204.3
  • The tubes Shall be Seamless, and the testing shall be as per A 450 / A450M.
  • Application: apply to the heat exchangers, condensers and heat transfer equipment and similar pipe.

Packing:

  • Packed in wooden box or bundles protected with plastic paper, and suitably protected for sea-worthily delivery or as requested.
  • The Product marking shall include the ASTM A179 or ASME SA179, size, heat no., Lot No. and Manufacture name or logo.
